Description
Several Kayastha artists moved to Patna in c. 1770, and by c. 1790 developed a type of painting which catered to the interests of the British residents. The article details the work of several artists who produced such paintings during the 19th century. The paintings were marked by their mixed Indian and British style, and the technique may have been acquired from the British. In the 20th century, the tradition is being continued through the Patna Art School.
